Guest List – Break it Down

Guest ListWhen the wedding day is approaching and the work is under way one of the more difficult parts of the entire event is choosing who to invite.  This can be a point of contention for many couples.  When making the guest list remember that for every person you invite the costs of the event are increased.  This can easily put things into perspective for many couples particularly in a tight economy.  There is something to be said for being selective about whom you invite to your wedding.  It is not a good time to be worried about who you might offend by not inviting them.

Start the process by listing everyone that you can think of that comes to mind that there is no hesitation about.  This will shape up to be a list of your closest family and friends and individuals you have spent a lifetime with.  These will be the people who have shared nearly every major life changing event through the times.  After this has been accomplished see how many more you feel you want to add to that list.  Set a limit based on budget and stick with it.  Selectively go through the list of guests that you would like to see there but that you would not necessarily be heartbroken if they did not attend.  If you still have room for a few more to meet the final number you agreed on, begin to add others.

One of the important things about the guest list is sticking with what you have selected up to the wedding day.  Often couples come up with a list of guests and then as the wedding approaches and before the invitations go out they start to think of others that they think they should invite. In addition, other family and friends make try to convince you that you should invite certain people.  Before you know it the nicely put together list that fits your budget has doubled in size and your budget is blown.

The basics of the guest list are choosing people that you love and want to be a part of your big event.  These people should hold some serious importance to you and your fiancé and should be a major part of your life.  Keeping on budget and not being swayed by the romance and chaos of the moment is vital to creating the wedding of your dreams without getting lost in the process.
